What do we repair most often?
- Leaning or broken posts, usually rotted at the ground line. We replace the post or add a steel post bracket.
- Loose, split or missing boards and rails.
- Gates that drag or will not latch, from a moving hinge post or a frame that racked.
- Winter storm damage from wind or a fallen limb.
- Cracked vinyl panels and bent chain link.
Repair or replace?
It depends on how much of the fence is failing. If a few posts are bad and the rest are solid, repair is the better value. If most posts are soft at the base, or the boards are gray and brittle across the whole run, a new fence usually costs less over time. We will tell you which one we see.

Does a repair need a permit?
Small repairs to an existing fence usually do not, but replacing a whole front-yard fence can bring the city's front-yard rules into play. Oakland offers a Design Review Exemption path for like-for-like front-yard replacements. See permits.
Is a shared fence my job or my neighbor's?
California presumes both owners share the reasonable cost of maintaining a boundary fence. Talk to your neighbor first; we can give you both one written quote.
